GreenCity Medical Center has celebrated Philippine Heart Month this Valentine’s Day of 2020. The event aimed to raise awareness on how to prevent and manage one of the leading causes of death in the country; heart attack.
The celebration consisted of different activities that gave our participants a simple insight into their current state of health such as free ECG, RBS, ABI, cholesterol, and uric acid. These were done in conjunction with our lay fora wherein topics related to Heart Attack, such as its prevention and possible implications, as well as the proper management of the disease, were discussed. The participants were also given the opportunity to raise questions or clarifications, thus, enriching their knowledge even more. The interest and willingness of the participants to learn about this topic encouraged an easy discussion and demonstration of basic life-support or hands-only cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) by the Philippine Heart Association Central Luzon Chapter.
This event furthers GreenCity’s advocacy of patient education and empowerment by giving people the necessary knowledge needed to make informed decisions for their health.

It was a day meant to encourage people to commit to a healthy heart lifestyle. The celebration consisted of different activities such as free ECG, ABI, blood tests, as well as a free consultation with the cardiologists. These were followed by lay fora, wherein the topics discussed were Atrial Fibrillation (AF) and Angina awareness and implications of having diabetes to the heart's health. The event also emphasized the importance of the fit heart minute, which aims to show people that no matter how busy you are, you only need a minute to move and raise your heart rate to keep your body healthy.
In conjunction with the World Heart Day celebration, GreenCity Medical Center also organized a bloodletting event for the participants as well as non-participants willing to donate blood. The practice of blood donation not only benefits the recipients of the blood but the donors as well. According to an article published in the American Journal of Epidemiology, regular blood donors are less likely to suffer from cardiovascular diseases such as heart attack and strokes as well as maintain a healthy liver. After donating, the body stimulates the production of new blood cells to replenish the lost blood which helps in the maintenance of good health.
GreenCity has a blood bank located in the Laboratory Department, upper ground Floor of GreenCity Medical Center ready to facilitate a walk-in donor from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Be a hero, donate your blood. A single person's kindness can save 3 lives.
