Q: I need a pacemaker. Is this a major surgery?
A: NO. Pacemaker insertions are simple, minor procedures using only local anesthesia and mild sedation. It can even be done while you are awake! It involves a small incision under the collar bone where the pacemaker will be situated. A patient with a pacemaker can live a normal life and requires only semi-annual pacemaker checkups. This will ensure that the device will function at its peak and for the battery to last to more than 10 years.
At GreenCity Medical Center, our IBHRE Certified Cardiac Device Specialist, Peter Carlo Nierras, MD, FPCP, FPCC, has successfully implanted two (as of this writing) pacemakers and also holds a pacemaker clinic at our Institution. Come talk to us today!
