We seek the help and contract of indigenous individuals possibly affected by our jobs. We repeat this through discussion and impact administration processes.
Shell has also developed a public place statement on Free Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC), a principle recognised in the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. We work to make sure we meet the needs of FPIC for governments and organizations to obtain the support of native peoples before beginning a task that could impact their rights. For example, the LNG Canada joint venture (Shell interest 40%) ended up being prepared and created by working closely aided by the Haisla country and six other indigenous communities.
