CT Guided Biopsies
GreenCity Medical Center offers CT-guided biopsies of the lungs, thyroid, prostate, and kidneys using our 32-slice Hitachi Scan. But have you stopped and thought about what is a biopsy and how is it done?
Biopsies are done to withdraw a tissue or fluid sample from an organ or suspected tumor. Surgical removal of the specimen can be readily performed if the suspicious area is located near the surface of the body or during surgery. However, if the suspected tumor is located deep inside the body and cannot be seen or felt by the physician, CT-guided biopsy is recommended. This type of biopsy is less invasive and does not require an incision because it only uses a very thin needle and a syringe to take samples of the mass.
